Captans is a small designer bouitique resort spread over 2.5 acres of lush greenery, located in a picturesque Western Ghats (hill) resort off Lonavla, 2500 ft above sea level between Mumbai and Pune. It is 100 KM from Bombay (2 Hrs) and 70 KM (1 HR) from Pune accessible by the new Bombay Pune expressway. It is well connected by rail also as all trains to Banglore and Madras from Bombay stop here. Captans is only 4 KM from the Lonavla Bus Station yet situated in the most pristine environment on the Rajmachi road beyond the Tungarli Lake and the tribal village of Thakurwadi, in the vicinity of the giant Walvan lake and perched on the edge of the Ghats on the fringe of the beautiful Rajmachi/Bhimashankar wildlife Sanctuary/nature park, it has some of the most amazing views of the Western Ghats and ranges. Just the place to lay back and unwind amidst nature.

Captans was envisaged and built by a Merchant Navy sea Captain as his own retreat but was later converted into a nature resort to cater to a select western clientele and upwardly mobile Indian nature lovers. It is also ideally located for jumpstart on tours around Maharastra, coastal Konkan to Goa including the famous Ajanta/Ellora caves.

Also the Ex-British colonial town of Lonavla is known for its famous Rock cut temples of Karla and Bhaja (circa 300 BC) and the Captain himself is an ardent student of Indian religions and Vedantic philosophy. Also a famed Yoga institute (Kevalyadham) and Vedanta (Indian philosophy) Academy is located here. A stay at Captans is ideal for pursuing a course in either of the above fields.

Captans is located in as yet un-spoilt area of the Western Ghats and ideally located for either a trek/ jeep safari to the famous and most picturesque forts of Shivaji located at Rajmachi (its sometimes compared to Machu Pichu by our foreign guests). Captans is located next to some tribal areas of the Adivasi's and is ideal for an introduction to their way of life.

Captans location makes it easy for the serious wildlife enthusiast to view some of the rare western Ghat wildlife like the Indian giant squirrel and others like the Leopard, Languor’s and other primates, Sambhar, Mouse deer etc and bird-life like painted spur fowl and the jungle fowl besides the famous Great pied hornbill and the captain himself is an avid wildlife enthusiast. In the rains besides some of the most spectacular scenery a wild fungi is endemic to this area that glows by itself.
