Weather
Known as the ‘Jewel of Sahyadri’ this
place is lively and green all over the year. The
climate is mild during summers, while winters
are cool. However, the best time to visit this

Caves |

name Lonavala is derived from the Sanskrit word
‘Lanavli’, which means a city surrounded
by many caves. Hence, Karla and Bhaja Caves, located
in the hills, 11km from Lonavla are a must watch.
These ancient rock-cut cave temples are among
the superior examples of Buddhist art in India. |

Tungarli, Lonavala and Bhushi. The Bhushi dam

excursions from here are the 18th century forts
of Lohagad and Visapur. The Tunga fort and Rajmachi

at the Duke’s Nose peak(12km) and other
locations in the Karla hills, near Lonavala. |

How to Get There? |

Air:
Nearest airport is situated in Pune at 64-km.
Rail: Lonavala is on the main
railway line between Mumbai and Pune. All express
trains between the two cities stop here. There
is also an hourly shuttle service for Pune
Road: Lonavala is situated on
the Mumbai Pune Highway. One can take the Express
Highway as well as the National Highway. It is
104-km from Mumbai and 64-km from Pune. The bus
service between Lonavala and Mumabai is good.
Travelers can hire bicycles on hourly basis to
travel around Lonavala. |
